Common Symptoms

REFRIGERATOR PROBLEMS WE FIX

A fridge that won't cool turns into hundreds of dollars in spoiled food in a single weekend. We diagnose accurately on the first visit and carry common parts on the truck so most repairs are completed in one trip.

NOT COOLING OR COOLING TOO WARM

Usually a failed compressor relay, dirty condenser coils, a stuck defrost system, or an evaporator fan that's stopped turning. Each has a clear test sequence, so we identify the actual cause instead of guessing.

FREEZER WORKS, FRIDGE SECTION DOESN'T

A classic symptom of a frozen evaporator coil or a failed defrost heater, defrost thermostat, or defrost timer. Common across Samsung, LG, and Whirlpool side-by-sides and French-door units.

ICE MAKER NOT WORKING

Clogged water lines, frozen fill tubes, failed water inlet valves, or a worn-out ice maker module. We can usually have ice production back up the same visit.

WATER OR ICE DISPENSER NOT DISPENSING

Frozen supply lines, failed dispenser switches, control board faults, or a stuck water valve. We diagnose the full water path, not just the dispenser face.

LEAKING WATER INSIDE OR ON THE FLOOR

Cracked drain pans, clogged defrost drains, split water lines, or a failed water inlet valve. We trace the leak back to its actual source so it doesn't come back.

LOUD NOISES (BUZZING, CLICKING, GRINDING)

Failing compressors, worn-out evaporator fan motors, or condenser fan blades dragging on debris. Each noise has a fingerprint and we know how to read them.

FROST BUILDUP IN THE FREEZER

Failed defrost system, a torn door gasket, or a door that's not sealing flush. We fix the cause so the frost doesn't return.

ERROR CODES ON THE DISPLAY

Modern refrigerators throw fault codes for a reason. We read and interpret them across Samsung, LG, GE, Bosch, and others to point us straight at the problem.

Don’t see your issue?

Call us and describe what’s happening. If we work on it, we’ll diagnose it accurately on the first visit — and back the repair with our 1-year warranty.

BUILT-IN AND LUXURY REFRIGERATOR REPAIR

We service standard kitchen refrigerators and high-end built-in units that other shops turn down.

  • Sub-Zero built-in and integrated units
  • Viking, Wolf, and Thermador built-ins
  • Miele, Fisher & Paykel, and Liebherr
  • KitchenAid built-ins and counter-depth models
  • GE Monogram and Café series

Quick Answers

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why isn't my refrigerator cooling but the freezer still works?
Usually a frozen evaporator coil caused by a failed defrost system. The freezer keeps making cold air, but the cold can't get into the fridge section because the airflow is blocked. We diagnose the full defrost circuit to find the actual cause.
Do you repair Sub-Zero and other built-in refrigerators?
Yes. Built-in and luxury refrigerators are a core part of what we do. Sub-Zero, Viking, Wolf, Thermador, Miele, and Fisher & Paykel are all brands we service regularly.
How long does refrigerator repair take?
Most repairs are completed in one visit. Sealed system work or special-order parts can require a second visit, but we'll tell you exactly what's needed before any work begins.
What's covered by your warranty?
Every repair is backed by a full 1-year warranty on parts and labor. If anything related to our work fails within that period, we return and make it right at no additional charge.
Should I repair or replace my refrigerator?
Generally, if the unit is under 8 years old or it's a high-end built-in, repair is almost always the better call. We'll give you an honest assessment based on the actual problem and the age of the unit.
How much does refrigerator repair typically cost?
Most residential refrigerator repairs land between $200 and $600 including parts and labor. Sealed system work and built-in units can run higher. We give you a flat-rate written quote before any work begins, and the diagnostic fee is rolled into the repair if you proceed.
Do you offer same-day refrigerator repair?
Whenever we have an opening, yes. Same-day appointments depend on time of day you call and where you are in our service area. Calls before 10am have the best chance. We always confirm a 2 to 3 hour window in advance.
What's the most common refrigerator issue you see?
Frozen evaporator coils causing the fridge section to stop cooling while the freezer keeps working. It's misdiagnosed constantly because most techs don't run the full defrost-circuit test. We see and fix this one every week.
Can you repair smart and Wi-Fi connected refrigerators?
Yes. We service Samsung Family Hub, LG ThinQ, GE Profile smart fridges, and other connected models. Most issues are still mechanical or sealed-system related, but we also handle control board and connectivity faults.
Do you service wine coolers, beverage centers, and standalone freezers?
Yes. Wine coolers (Sub-Zero, U-Line, EuroCave, Marvel), beverage centers, kegerators, and standalone uprights or chest freezers are all part of our regular work. Sealed system work included.
How long do refrigerators usually last?
Standard residential refrigerators average 12 to 15 years. High-end built-ins like Sub-Zero are designed for 20+ years with proper maintenance. If yours is failing inside that window, repair is almost always the right call.
Will the part be in stock?
We carry common refrigerator parts — fan motors, defrost components, water valves, control boards — on the truck for the major brands. Sealed system parts and high-end specialty parts may need to be ordered, but we'll tell you up front and schedule a return visit quickly.
Why is my refrigerator running constantly?
A fridge that never cycles off is usually working overtime to compensate for a problem — dirty condenser coils, a worn door gasket leaking cold air, a failing defrost system, or a refrigerant charge issue on the sealed system. Running constantly burns through compressors and drives up energy bills, so it's worth diagnosing sooner rather than later.
Why is my refrigerator freezing food in the fresh food section?
Almost always a failed temperature sensor (thermistor), a damper that's stuck open, or a control board issue that's calling for too much cooling. We diagnose the cooling control circuit and replace the specific component instead of guessing at the temperature dial.
Do you do sealed-system and refrigerant work?
Yes. Compressor replacement, leak detection, evaporator and condenser work, and refrigerant recharging on R-134a and R-600a systems are all in our scope. Sealed system work is a specialty most appliance shops won't touch — we will, and we're properly certified to do it.
Will I lose all the food in my fridge during the repair?
Usually no. Most repairs are completed quickly enough that food stays cold, especially if the door stays closed. If a repair will take longer, or the unit needs to sit unpowered, we'll tell you up front so you can move perishables to a cooler or another fridge.
Should I unplug my refrigerator before the technician arrives?
No — leave it plugged in and running so the tech can see the actual symptoms, hear the noises, and read live diagnostics. Unplugging it first can mask the very issue we're there to fix.
There's a strange smell coming from my fridge. Can you help?
Yes. Persistent smells are usually one of three things: a clogged defrost drain growing mildew, mold in the door gasket folds, or a failed seal letting outside humidity in. We diagnose which one and fix the underlying cause — not just mask it.
How often should refrigerator condenser coils be cleaned?
Every 6 to 12 months for most homes — more often if you have pets, since pet hair builds up fast. Dirty coils are the single most common cause of premature compressor failure and high energy bills. We clean them as part of any preventative maintenance visit.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We're a licensed, insured, locally-owned business operating across Greater Austin Area. Every technician is factory-trained, background-checked, and covered under our liability and workers' comp insurance.

The technician who came out arrived promptly, assessed my washer while answering questions about [average] washer durability by brand [based on what repair technicians were most commonly seeing and/or having to repair + industry experience], determined the issues in short order, and diagnosed & verbally broke down the error codes I was frequently getting. Per my request, a quote to repair it was provided, and the technician was upfront with me about part cost estimates based on brand vs. aftermarket parts, (as the machine was -well- out of the warranty period at this point). Part and labor prices on the quote were quite fair and not marked up excessively [I did some checking to confirm]. I would absolutely work with America's Appliance Repair again in the future, and regret that I delayed writing this review long enough that I don't recall the technician's name to give him personal props.

Zero star stars would be the proper rating for this business. Hearing the manager tell me that they are solely for a profit- Yet would provide me with a good service was an oxymoron. Especially since the service they offered would provide with me less than the contents I would be paying for. I didn’t request anything more than what is included from the item purchasing, at the manufacture price. They were trying to mark up the product, the work and not include all items paid for- THAT’s A THIEF NOT A BUSINESS!!

As a business owner myself the proper thing to do is give people what they pay for. Then provide them with a great level of service and allow them to build your business through a positive interaction, and word-of-mouth. This isn’t what I received and therefore would NEVER recommend them. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK.!!!

Nathan repaired our motorhome refrigerator, out of his normal service area. He was knowledgeable and the only company we could get to come out for a Samsung. His price was $700+ above what my warranty company covered. It took a month and 4 trips on his part, but the refrigerator seems to be working properly. Yeah. Still waiting on my warranty company reimbursement check.

I would definitely recommend this company. I have a home warranty and they were unable to get someone out and told me to call myself. I found this company and they were able to get to my house within a day and had it fixed in a very timely manner. Thank you to Roger and your wonderful ladies at the office. Y'all are awesome.
